Vetiver essential oil begins its journey in southwestern Haiti, where the roots of Vetiver grass are carefully harvested and distilled.
Through dōTERRA’s Cō-Impact Sourcing initiative, farmer cooperatives have been established in the region, helping create stability, training, and new opportunities for local growers.
Farmers are supported with education in sustainable cultivation—learning how to propagate Vetiver so it continues growing year after year, along with improved planting and harvesting practices that increase both quality and yield. They’re encouraged to let the roots mature for at least 12 months before harvest, and higher-quality roots can earn additional premiums. A traceability system also helps identify the best crops.
There’s even a pre-payment program that allows farmers to receive part of their income earlier in the season, offering support for their families long before harvest time arrives.
