Douglas Fir | New Zealand
Here’s one of those really interesting behind-the-scenes sourcing stories…
The Douglas Fir used for this oil grows abundantly in New Zealand, especially on the South Island. While these trees are beautiful, they weren’t originally native to the area—and over time, they started spreading quickly and crowding out native plant life.
This is where things get pretty amazing…
Harvesting Douglas Fir for essential oil actually helps manage that environmental imbalance. dōTERRA partners with local teams to collect the trees while they’re still young—typically around five to seven years old—before they begin producing cones and spreading even further.
If left unchecked, large areas would eventually need to be cleared using chemical methods, which can be harsh on the surrounding land.
Instead, these trees are thoughtfully harvested and transformed into essential oil—helping protect the ecosystem while creating something truly valuable.
It’s such a beautiful example of how mindful sourcing can support both the environment and the oils we love. 🌲✨
