Douglas Fir grows so abundantly in New Zealand that it has become invasive in parts of the South Island, overtaking land and crowding out native plant species. By sourcing young growth trees, dōTERRA helps support environmental balance while creating a high-quality, sustainable essential oil.
How it works…
Douglas Fir is a tall evergreen native to North America, commonly used as a Christmas tree. The essential oil is carefully distilled from the needles and small branches—never the wood—resulting in a cleaner, more potent aromatic profile than many other brands.
In New Zealand, these trees were originally introduced for timber, but they now grow nearly 20x faster than in their native environment. Left unmanaged, they can spread rapidly and disrupt fragile ecosystems by blocking sunlight and limiting native plant growth.
