🧺 Clean Your Washing Machine 🧺

If your washer has ever greeted you with a funky smell… you’re not alone. Front-loaders especially love to trap moisture, creating a cozy little clubhouse for mold and mildew. Not exactly the fresh-laundry vibe we’re going for. 😅

Here’s a big truth with dōTERRA laundry products: less is more. Too much On Guard® Laundry Soap can lead to soap scum buildup, which actually makes odors worse.

The Fix:
A quick weekly wipe-down plus a monthly (or occasional) deep clean keeps your machine fresh, happy, and working the way it should.

🌿 Weekly Wipe-Down (5 minutes, tops)

Use this once a week after finishing laundry.

You’ll need:

  • ¾ cup white vinegar

  • 10 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca)

  • 5 drops Grapefruit

How to:

  1. Add everything to an 8-oz glass spray bottle and shake well

  2. Spray the rubber seal, drum, and door

  3. Wipe thoroughly with a soft cloth

  4. Remove soap tray, spray and wipe, then replace

  5. Let air dry before your next load

(Top-loaders: wipe the drum and exterior the same way.)

🫧 Deep Clean (a few times a year)

Important science moment: baking soda + vinegar cancel each other out. Bubbles look fun, but cleaning power disappears. So this method works in two separate phases—and it’s magic.

You’ll need:

  • ½ tsp natural dish soap

  • 4 Tbsp washing soda

  • 1 cup white vinegar

  • 20 drops Tea Tree

Phase One:

  1. Remove soap tray and soak in hot water + dish soap

  2. Scrub with a toothbrush, rinse, replace

  3. Add washing soda to the drum

  4. Run hottest cycle or “tub clean”

Phase Two:

  1. Add vinegar + essential oils to liquid dispenser

  2. Run hottest cycle or “tub clean” again

  3. Wipe seal, drum, and door

  4. Let fully dry

  5. Clean bottom filter if your machine has one

(Top-loaders: add washing soda directly to hot water in the drum; pour vinegar straight into the drum for phase two.)

A clean washer = cleaner clothes, better-smelling laundry, and fewer mystery odors. Small maintenance, big payoff. ✨
