Let’s take a peek behind the scenes at Black Spruce… because the story is just as beautiful as the oil itself.
Black Spruce grows abundantly across Alaska and parts of Canada, thriving in those cold, rugged landscapes. These trees are often harvested for the paper industry, where the trunks are used—but for a long time, the branches and needles were simply left behind.
And that’s where things get really interesting…
dōTERRA partners with sourcing teams to make use of those leftover pieces. The branches and needles—where the essential oil actually lives—are carefully gathered and steam distilled instead of going to waste.
Even the distillation process is thoughtfully designed. The remaining plant material doesn’t get tossed… it’s used by a local power plant to create energy that helps fuel further distillation. A full-circle, low-waste system that supports more than just one purpose.
It’s such a great example of turning what was once discarded into something truly valuable.
